We offer:
We will accompany you with our vehicle on your individual, planned route, and advise and organize your trip.
A guided tour with your own vehicle combines individual freedom with professional organization – ideal for explorers seeking adventure but don't want to sacrifice safety and local expertise. You drive your familiar vehicle and maintain your personal comfort zone, while an experienced team plans the route, organizes permits, assists with breakdowns, and provides cultural insights. This allows you to fully focus on the experience without worrying about the logistical complexity – especially important in remote or less developed regions. Perfect for those who want to travel independently but still feel part of a community.
The intensity of this trip depends on various factors, such as weather, route, road conditions, and physical conditions, which presents challenges for both participants and vehicles. The pace of the tour will be tailored to your preferences and the specific route. We ensure that you experience unforgettable moments in a hassle-free manner—full of challenges, but also with many highlights.
Our goal is to offer tailor-made self-drive tours for one to a maximum of three vehicles, without convoy travel. We visit impressive, historic sites and the region's most beautiful landscapes. With our experience, we will make your trip an unforgettable experience.

Travel time
Some destinations are not ideal to visit year-round. For the best travel experience, we align your destinations with the optimal travel season. A minimum trip duration of three months should be planned.

Who we are
We are Ivonne (48), master optician/regional manager, and Mirko (49), cameraman. We've been traveling the world together for 25 years. We've already been to four continents in our expedition vehicle, and our wanderlust continues. We enjoy getting to know new people and cultures, are deeply connected to nature, and are continually enchanted by the small, often inconspicuous moments that make life so special. We want to share this joy with you.

South America
South America is a fascinating continent full of diversity and contrasts – from the majestic Andes and the dense Amazon rainforest to the vibrant cultures of cities like Buenos Aires, Cusco, and Rio de Janeiro. The region offers breathtaking natural wonders such as the Iguazú Falls, the Salar de Uyuni salt flats, and the mysterious ruins of Machu Picchu. Travelers can expect unique wildlife, culinary discoveries, and the warm hospitality of its people. Those seeking to experience adventure, nature, and culture in their purest form will find unforgettable experiences in South America.
Silk Road
The legendary Silk Road is one of the most important trade routes in history, connecting East and West. This fascinating route stretches for thousands of kilometers and offers a unique blend of breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and fascinating historical sites. Immerse yourself in millennia-old civilizations, experience impressive landscapes from the deserts of Central Asia to the mountain passes of the Pamir Mountains, and discover fascinating cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Xi'an. The Silk Road tells the story of caravans, spices, religions, and ideas that once changed the world. A journey along this route is like a journey through time—full of diversity, history, and authentic encounters. Experience unparalleled hospitality. A visit to a local market will certainly captivate you with the fascination of the Orient. 1001 Nights is not just a fairy tale.

Personal requirements for participation in our trips
Our expedition trips are not a traditional vacation, but an intensive travel experience that requires commitment, team spirit, and flexibility. To ensure that all participants can enjoy and cope with the trip, certain personal requirements are required.
-
You should enjoy traveling and new experiences.
-
Please note: Traveling doesn't mean a "vacation in the traditional sense." Every day is active and varied—tasks like driving, cooking, shopping, route planning, sightseeing, laundry, and minor repairs are all part of it.
-
Participants must be able to cope with the physical and mental demands of the journey, including long driving distances, changing climatic conditions, unpredictable situations, and limited comfort.
-
A valid passport is mandatory. It must be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your trip and contain at least four blank pages.
-
You need a valid driver's license.
-
Entry formalities for individual countries are usually completed at the respective national borders.
-
We will, of course, assist you with all border formalities, visa matters, and administrative questions.
-
Additional requirements may apply to certain trips, such as yellow fever vaccination, certain driver's licenses, or special driving experience (e.g., four-wheel drive). Please refer to the respective trip description for this information.
-
We recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance (including trip cancellation, international health insurance, baggage, etc.).
What requirements must the vehicle meet?
The vehicles must be in perfect technical condition.
All-wheel drive is not mandatory, but sufficient ground clearance is necessary, as, depending on the tour, we will be traveling through mountainous and steppe regions. Road conditions often do not meet Central European standards. The asphalt (where available) is sometimes bumpy and potholed, and some secondary roads are unpaved, but easily navigable.
Since there are only a few campsites on this tour, the vehicles must be self-sufficient, meaning they should have a solar power system for power consumers. A toilet and sufficient water supply on board make everyday life easier.
The diesel quality does not meet European standards, as the sulfur content is significantly higher. Therefore, the vehicles must meet the technical requirements for appropriate compatibility.
European vehicle insurers do not cover travel to this region, so appropriate insurance must be purchased in the respective countries. We advise and help with any questions that may arise.
FAQ
Do we drive in a convoy?
No! You drive the stages independently, either alone or, if desired, in small groups.
What is an escorted trip?
All tours have been explored and planned in advance. We handle the route planning, the search for camping or overnight spots, and assist with organizing excursions and sightseeing. At border crossings, we help with formalities or visa arrangements (if necessary). We place great emphasis on individuality. Each participant is responsible for themselves and their vehicle. Naturally, participants must ensure that their vehicle is in working order at the start of the trip and does not hold up the group due to preventable issues. In the event of a breakdown, we (and in rare cases, the entire group) stay with the stranded participant until they are properly taken care of. Group solidarity may be required. Once the participant is assisted, for example, taken to a workshop, our duty is fulfilled, and the journey can continue with the group. We remain in contact with the stranded participant and, if necessary, the workshop by phone. A stranded participant is not left alone, but must understand that we always strive to maintain the planned itinerary with the group. Repairs or sourcing spare parts may take several days.
What is the order of the vehicles?
On our tours, we are usually the last to leave the overnight site. This way, every participant can drive with the reassurance that someone is behind them. Often, there is no mobile reception on the way, and if, for example, a breakdown occurs, we will arrive sooner or later to provide or organize assistance.
How does laundry work during the tour?
Usually, there is the opportunity to have laundry done at least every three weeks (often earlier). Of course, you can also wash some clothes yourself at the campsite.
How is propane gas supplied on the road?
You should be able to go three weeks without refilling. A special adapter is required to refill the bottles. You can purchase an adapter for independent refilling from a specialist dealer.
Do I need a special motorhome?
No. No special vehicles are required for the tours. All-wheel drive is not necessary. The trips can be done with standard motorhomes, even with front-wheel drive. However, higher ground clearance is an advantage.
Altitude sickness
Depending on the tour, we reach a maximum altitude of 5,225 m. We always try to acclimatize as slowly as possible. Usually, a few days are spent at an altitude of 3,000–3,500 m to get used to the height gradually. If problems occur, they usually appear at this altitude, and participants can descend if necessary. Most issues disappear immediately when descending.
Is there an age limit for participation?
No, there is no age limit. The most important thing is that you feel fit and confident enough to manage the tour.
Traveling with a dog
It is possible, but with some restrictions. For example, dogs are not allowed in many national parks or on the train to Machu Picchu. In such cases, a participant would need to stay behind. If you want to bring your dog, we will discuss the details in advance, as we have also traveled for many years with a dog.
Freescape Expeditions does not operate as a tour operator, but rather as an active travel companion, available to assist you at any time. It's important to note that you act entirely on your own responsibility and therefore cannot assert any legal claims against us should unforeseen difficulties arise. If you have to cancel your trip for personal, health, or technical reasons, you are unfortunately not entitled to a refund. We are available 24/7 and will support you to ensure your personalized trip is a complete success – we prioritize individuality over peer pressure.
